HISTORY
The first settlement in Vine Grove was in 1806, on the banks of Otter Creek. Early settlers named the area "Vine Grove" due to the abundance of wild grapes. In the early 1860's, the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad was constructed nearby and the center of town shifted east as residents moved closer to the railroad.

Vine Grove made the news in the early 20th century, as fires repeatedly destroyed large parts of the town. Residents persevered, though, and quickly rebuilt.
