HISTORY It is difficult to find written history about Rineyville. It is currently still an unincorporated area, but boasts a population of over 3600 residents. Rineyville is a popular place to live with military familes, because it is located less than 30 minutes from Fort Knox and features larger homes on more land for similar price points as Radcliff and Elizabethtown. It has a small downtown area, but much of the rolling land is dedicated to farm and pasture land.
It is believed that Rineyville was first settled in late 1700's by John Wesley Pawley. Pawley was born in England in 1743, but early on, became sympathetic to the American fight for independence in the colonies. He made his way to South Carolina and fought against England with the famed leader, General Francis Marion, during the Revoluationary War. As a reward for his service during the war, Pawley was given a large parcel of land in modern day Hardin County, including the town we now know as Rineyville.
The town did not receive it's name until the late 1800's, however. In 1874, the Illinois Central Railroad was commissioned to be built. The Riney family gave land to the railroad and that stop came to be known as "Riney." Several years later, a post office was constructed and it was their decision to add the "ville," resulting in today's "Rineyville."
INTERESTING FACTS Rineyville is located in a dry county (Hardin). However, it is commonly referred to as being "moist" because drink sales are allowed in restaurants that serve more than 100 people.
