HISTORY
Radcliff was first settled in 1919. A man named Horace McCullum owned much of the land in modern day city limits and subdivided it into parcels along Wilson Avenue. These parcels of land were then sold to the highest bidder at an auction. Camp Henry Knox had recently been established a short distance away and the area began to grow. McCullum decided to name the new settlement after his friend Major William Radcliffe, who was the quartermaster at nearby Camp Henry Knox. Following the opening of a general store in the new settlement, Radcliff began to grow quickly and soon became Kentucky's fastest growing city.

During the pre-war years in the 1930's, Camp Henry Knox became Fort Knox and began to expand. Fort Knox encompassed the existing towns of Stithton and New Stithton, forcing those residents to relocate to the nearby town of Radcliff. During World War II, thousands of soldiers poured into Fort Knox for training. Radcliff boasted a USO and provided entertainment for troops before they left for war.

After World War II ended, Radclif continued to grow. Hardin County Water District #1 was created in 1953 and went on to become the major source for all of Hardin County's fresh water. A fire department was organized in 1955. Finally, in 1956, Radcliff was incorporated and granted status as a city.
